Rain did not deter Suva dogs and their humans from supporting the SPCA and the Tim Howick-Smith 1000 Paws Walk today at Albert Park.

The event celebrates Howick-Smith’s life and passion for ending cruelty to animals.

The festival today celebrated all dogs owned and unowned. Dogs lapped Albert Park with their owners, competed in a number of events including best dressed, faster eater and most obedient.

The event was opened by Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Tomasi Tunabuna, who said it was his first time to attend such a novel event. He pledged the government’s continued support for the SPCA and other animal welfare organisations.

Since 1953 the SPCA has been providing shelter and medical services to animals, as well as running outreach services to more remote communities.
