Local musicians to celebrate World Music Day in Suva

World Music Day

This year’s World Music Day celebrations in Fiji makes a grand return with a fantastic all-Fijian lineup.

The event first began in France in 1982, and is now celebrated annually in over 100 countries including Fiji.

It gathers professional and amateur musicians, from mixed musical universes, languages and communities, to share their passion for music and their love for the arts.

Manuel Bettoni, Director of the French Embassy in Fiji, Alliance Française, hopes visitors will support local artists and bands and enjoy the live music.

“If we can encourage one person to take an instrument and start to make music… that’s a victory for us,” Bettoni told local media.

The event is free of charge with three consecutive shows to be held on the same street (Desvoeux Road) in Suva on Friday, June 23, 2023

  • Discovery Stage, organised jointly with Ben Masirewa, a prominent Fijian musician, will showcase young talents such as Just Bruce. They will be participating in the open stage/star search afternoon at Alliance Française (3-5pm).
  • Coffee Stage at Mana Coffee (5.30-7.30pm) will be a different atmosphere with acoustic and pop sets from Jonathan Fong and Sweet Sensation
  • Then, a final show with some VT1s members and a DJ set with Punal Chand at the Greenhouse Coworking Space (8.30-10.30pm).
