In this issue of Fiji Traveller, we are focused on the horizon, whether it is
from the balcony of the spectacular Urata Lookout Café as featured in our
cover story, or from the deck of the glamourous Sabre catamaran.
When we launched Fiji Traveller last year, it was with the knowledge
that tourism was going to be the fastest and most critical driver of Fiji’s
economic recovery—at least in the short term.
That has been borne out by the figures. In March this year, 60,548 visitors
arrived in the country, which was 102% of March 2019 arrivals. Of these,
77% are coming on holiday, with the remainder arriving to visit family and
friends, for businesses and conferences, or for other, unspecified reasons.
This magazine is for all of them, and for adventurous and curious locals.
We want to contribute to efforts to see the benefits of tourism spread as
widely as possible, and to promote travel experiences that run deeper than
‘flop and drop’ holidays.
That’s why you’ll find a combination of traditional experiences here; from
the thrilling Sigatoka River Safari to newer attractions such as Sigavou
Studios’ colourful Nadi gallery.
We also want you to meet some of the inspiring Fijians who make this
country such a stimulating, complex place to visit and live in, such as textile
designer Sonam Sapra, and digital analyst and marketer Jasmine Yee Joy
Bland.
So enjoy exploring our pages...then get out there and explore all Fiji has
to offer!
Travel well,
