The Republic of Cappuccino Cafe (ROC) has announced that the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation will take over coordination of the ROC Market, Fiji’s oldest running street market.

Established in 1998 as a gathering for a local street race, the ROC Market has grown into a vital platform for small businesses and artisans. Over 27 years, it has supported hundreds of home-based businesses, many of which have grown into established enterprises.

“The ROC Market has always been about creating opportunities for Fijians with big dreams and limited resources,” said Fangfang Jamnadas, co-owner of The Republic of Cappuccino Cafe.

Key coordinators over the years Vanessa Kilner, Peter Sipeli, and most recently, Ellana Kalounisiga have each helped shape the market’s welcoming atmosphere and community spirit.

Former Radio Personality and politician Mrs. Bernadette Rounds Ganilau has been a longtime supporter of the Roc Market and one of the original vendors. Mrs Ganilau sold pearls, books and crafts, even during her years as Minister for Tourism.

After nearly a decade of partnership, FBC will now manage the market directly. “We’re honoured to take on this role and are committed to preserving the ROC Market’s special character,” said Karalaini Koroi, Manager of Gold FM.

The market will continue to run on the third Sunday of each month, with a special market day set for April 27, 2025.

Under FBC, the market will remain focused on supporting local artisans and small businesses, staying true to its original vision.
