Business briefs: Fiji to host Green World Awards, Land’s End Grill and Bar opens on Denarau, Lomalagi breaks ground

Fiji will host the 2027 Green World Awards after The Gaia (Earth) project in Dreketi, Vanua Levu, won the Green Organisation’s highest honour at an awards ceremony in Wales last month.

Led by Blue Phoenix Group (Fiji) — the Gaia project was recognised for its environmental leadership from more than 500 entries. Roger Wolens, founder and CEO of the Green Organisation Wolens noted the rarity of “such a sustained level of commitment, investment, and impact over a 16‑year period,” praising the team’s “clear and ambitious vision for the future now underway in Fiji.”

The Gaia initiative comprises multiple phases: regenerative agriculture and processing facilities aimed at the global nutraceutical market are due to launch in 2026; Fiji’s first internationally accredited Dark Sky Region, positioned to boost astro‑tourism, is targeted for 2028; and a 100 percent solar‑powered, bamboo‑constructed rainforest wellness retreat aimed at the ultra‑luxury regenerative tourism market is planned for 2030.

The Green World Awards ceremony in April 2027 is expected to draw an international delegation of sustainability leaders, investors, media and policymakers, offering Fiji an opportunity to showcase regenerative development, climate resilience initiatives and sustainable tourism products.

Land’s End Bar & Grill opens

Club Wyndham Denarau Island has opened Land’s End Bar & Grill, a vibrant new ocean-front dining destination perched at the very tip of Denarau Island.  The waterfront restaurant offers one of the best vantage points in Fiji to witness the elusive natural phenomenon known as the Green Flash

The Green Flash is visible for only a fleeting second as the sun disappears below the horizon and occurs when the atmosphere refracts sunlight like a prism, creating a brilliant emerald rim at the edge of the setting sun.  Land’s End capitalises on the romance of this phenomenon, with green-hued cocktails and subtle green lighting illuminating its beachfront setting. There’s even a themed pirate ship for an Instagram-worthy photo with family and friends.

Menu highlights include Kokoda Vuda; Island-style Grilled Octopus; Yasawa Island lobster; and Greenham Beef Rump with local spices.

Land’s End is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and welcomes resort guests, locals and visitors.

Fiji Airways Introduces BYD Shark 6 Vehicles

Fiji Airways has taken another step in its sustainability journey with the introduction of new BYD Shark 6 vehicles into its ground operations fleet.

The BYD Shark 6, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, combines performance with lower emissions, making it well-suited for operational use in and around airport environments. Its integration into the airline’s fleet marks a practical move toward reducing fuel consumption and supporting Fiji Airways’ long-term sustainability goals.

The new vehicles can operate in pure electric mode for up to 100 kilometres, making them particularly suitable for airside operations where short trips and stopstart driving are common, helping to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

They also provide reliable and efficient transport for engineering teams between aircraft stands, hangars, and operational areas, supporting the fast-paced nature of airside maintenance. At the Fiji Airways Aviation Academy, the vehicles will support training activities while showcasing how modern technologies are being integrated into everyday airline operations.
