One of the most popular and reliable vegetarian options in Suva, Govinda Vegetarian Restaurants have developed a strong group of regular customers thanks to their large offerings of food for a good price.
Up to a dozen different curries are on offer at any time,. Grabbing a couple of your favourites with some roti and rice seems the best way to do it. Closing at 5pm six days a week, Govinda’s also has a large selection of ice-creams, Indian sweets, and teatime snacks such as samosas, saina and lassis and masala chai.
Their large outlet at Sports City is less about aesthetics and more about functionality, with tables spread throughout the large space and booths lining the walls. The sparse furnishings are made to feel welcoming however by the hum of conversation.
It’s an authentic and positive experience, perfect for people on their lunch break from work or USP across the road.
It’s a different experience to other much loved Indian restaurants in Suva like Swagat and Ashiyana, who seem to market themselves for special occasions or a dinner out with friends. Govinda is simpler and more casual, but it is this relaxed atmosphere that has made it a mainstay for many.
